SCIENCE, LANGUAGE AND LITERACY: REPEAT CONFERENCE
Following its popularity in 2009, Rosemary Feasey and blen will be repeating their intensive one day training on the literacy implications of APP  for science (specifically KS1 & 2).

  Friday 30th April 2010  Main conference 10.30 - 16.00  (Registration 10:00-10:30)  Canterbury Hall, 18 Cartwright Gardens, London, WC1H 9EE

Conference Fees  Non-member £85. Please see the registration form for Early Bird and Member rates.  Lunch, tea, coffee, hand-outs and follow-up materials all included in price.

 MAIN THEME

The literacy implications of APP for science.
Assessing pupil performance (APP) is being introduced in science. There is a lot that is familiar in terms of the new focus strands but there are areas of learning that are different and it will require considering new approaches to assessing pupils in science.  This conference will consider what does this mean for Key Stages 1 and 2 in terms of the teaching and learning experience in science and what are the implications for literacy in learning, teaching and assessment.

The conference will focus on:
 - Developing teachers understanding of the new attainment focus strands (AF1 – 5)
 - Understanding the requirements of the new focus strands, particularly new areas such as AF 2
- Considering the literacy implications of the new strands, particularly collaboration and communication (AF3)
 - Making the most of literacy links to support assessment in science.
The sessions will be practical and offer a range of strategies for Key Stages 1 and 2.
